For a better tomorrow.
For a better tomorrow
Below we would like to give you an overview of how we contribute to more responsible travel, living and working, and in which areas we are already operating in a more resource-efficient way.
In addition, as the Gastwerk Hotel team, we are committed to social responsibility and promote a more conscious approach to the environment and resources in our daily hotel operations.
We are continuously working to further develop our hotel operations, reduce emissions, and communicate our actions transparently.
GreenSign
We have taken an important step on this journey with our GreenSign certification. GreenSign is a recognised sustainability certification for hotel businesses.
The certification assesses, among other things, ecological measures, social responsibility, and economic sustainability, and supports us in classifying our progress transparently and further expanding our efforts.

At the Hotel
- we use recycled and FSC-certified paper or increasingly rely on digital solutions to reduce paper consumption
- our guests have the option to use one of our 4 on-site EV charging stations
- we operate waste separation systems
- where possible, we prioritise regional suppliers and products produced with a lower environmental footprint
- we continuously work to reduce our water and energy consumption
- the entire team pays attention to conscious energy use during working hours
- employees are provided with a public transport ticket by the company and have the option to use a JobRad bicycle leasing scheme to support lower-emission commuting

In the rooms
- we have converted corridor lighting to LED
- we use refillable amenity products and, in many areas, avoid small shampoo and shower gel bottles
- for guest communication we use recycled or FSC-certified paper or digital solutions
- we use ECO cleaning products certified with the EU Ecolabel
- our bathrooms are fitted with flow regulators on taps to reduce water consumption

At the restaurant
- our breakfast follows a zero-waste approach aimed at minimising packaging and food waste as much as possible
- we predominantly source from regional suppliers
- tea, coffee and chocolate are sourced from Fair Trade suppliers
- we have significantly expanded our range of vegetarian and vegan dishes

Community initiative
- employees jointly engage once per quarter in social or environmental projects
- various environmental protection initiatives are planned and implemented by our “Green Team”
- we support Hamburg Leuchtfeuer annually through a fundraising campaign
- regular employee training sessions on safety and health topics are conducted

Our partners
Together with selected partners, we focus on sustainable solutions and responsible practices.
Coffeecycle: unser Partner für gelebte Kreislaufwirtschaft
Coffeecycle is a Hamburg-based start-up that transforms used coffee grounds into high-quality natural cosmetics. Recycled espresso residues are turned into nourishing products with a gentle exfoliating effect and natural ingredients such as oils, antioxidants and caffeine. In this way, a by-product becomes a meaningfully used raw material.
At Gastwerk, coffee grounds are produced daily in our restaurant, bar and event areas. Together with Coffeecycle, we give them a second life and turn them into our own coffee soap. Locally produced, collected on a regular basis, and consistently designed with circular economy principles in mind.
This collaboration combines the sustainable use of resources with a product that turns something everyday into something special.

Come for the design. Stay for the experience. Advance sustainability.
In our blog posts you can read all our about past projects. Here we update you on how we continue to make your stay more sustainable and what projects we have recently supported.
Sustainability certificates
Our sustainability certificates reflect how seriously we take our responsibility towards the environment and society. They are awarded by independent organisations based on clearly defined criteria and are regularly reviewed. Below you will find an overview of the certificates we currently hold.
